A New idea for this year's Gather.
Every year, Conglomeration has a charity auction to raise money for the charity of its choice (last year it was the American Cancer Society). They auction off all sorts of things--art, books, fandom-related stuff, etc. Scott and I discussed putting together a donation for the charity auction from the Kentucky Midwest Gather--a gift basket of dragonny, furry, fandom-y things. The idea was inspired by that book I posted about awhile back--someone gave me the same book as a Secret Santa gift at work, so now I have an extra copy!
Anyway, this is a totally voluntary activity, but if any Gather-goers (or Gather-would-like-to-go-but-can't-this-y
ear-ers) would be interested in contributing items to the donation, I've set up a little donation form here:http://www.wertle.com/charity.html
I'll probably post sporadic updates about this between now and this summer, so if you come across an object you think you'd like to contribute, hang onto it! Let me know if you have any questions.

As tradition, when the new year rolls around we start preliminary planning for this summer's Gather. Yaay! Please feel free to discuss ideas for this year's event.
I know that earlier in the year, Panda and I were discussing the idea of having a Gather Craft Activity, like a mini-room party for just us Gather-goers. Panda could instruct on how to make simple tails, and I have a fun idea for turning ballcaps into toony character hats. We'd provide basic materials for everybody. Anyone else with a crafty idea could pitch in as well. Sound like a fun idea? I'd love to do it.
I was also thinking--inpsired by Panda's great Ein costume last year and Arcturax's costume-in-progress (how is that going, btw, Arc?), maybe some Gather-goers give the masquerade a shot, maybe getting together to create a skit of some sort. Just pitching out ideas!
Anyway, it's never too early to start brainstorming--panel icebreakers, cool dinner ideas, questions for people who haven't attended yet, etc etc. Conglomeration.org hasn't updated for the 2005 Con yet, so I can't start throwing con specifics around just yet.
Scott, feel free to throw in any secret specifics you might know ^_^

Just to let you all know, the Con programming is up on their website, so you can browse and see what kind of panels are happening when, if you are interested. Programming starts at 2 pm on Friday, so I imagine the registration line will be open before then.http://www.conglomeration.org/programming.htm

Things are looking good so far! Just got the days I need off OK'd by my boss, so now I just need to get my insurance problem resolved, and I should be able to make it this year! I am so excited that I can finally make it to the gather for the first time!

An artsy offer for the con
Hey everyone, so Scott has commissioned me to do a picture of Fenton the Death Sheep from Hell (a popular Tom Smith filk song) to give to Tom Smith at the convention as a sort of gift from AFD as a whole.
Seeing that I need several Gather-going AFDers to include into my planned composition, and also to help Scott out with the price of the commission, I'm making the following offer: If you would like your dragonny (or batty, or whatevery) self included in this picture, then I will draw you in for $10. This payment can happen at the Gather, so no rush on money. (although the picture is to be done in real media, I can arrange to have prints made so you can have your own reproduction)
The only thing is, I need to know who will be included in the picture a week from today, so I can gather descriptions and get started on it. So, if you are interested, please either reply here or send me an email personally: email@example.com
More details on the image: It will be Wertle making scary Fenton shadow puppets for some fellow AFDers, only the real Fenton will be looming over the wall with the shadow, in view of the AFDers but unbeknownst to Wertle.

Site Update -- Who's Coming
Hey all, I updated the website. Scott sent me some updated information regarding who's going to be able to come, it's looking good so far! If anyone in this community is on the list/isn't on the list/needs how they are on the list to be changed, let me know and I'll take care of it.http://www.wertle.com/midwest.html
A "First Time Gather Attendee" checklist is in the making to post on the site, I'll let people know when it is updated again.

I know I've said I'd be going to this year's gather, but things are starting to look a bit against me. I'm not sure if I could get the time off or not; got 4 people above me at work that are taking a vacation the week I'm going to be down in that area. Still really hoping, but I'll have to see how things go; unfortunately I won't know until this Tuesday at the earliest

I'm just wondering... have there been any news about anything regarding the Gather in the last couple months that I've missed out on because I'm not visiting AFD anymore?
Or... is there anything important we should know that hasn't been declared anywhere yet? Or things that some of us, who will be attending for the first time, should know? Current Mood: curious

As long as we're here, let's have an introduction party!
I'm Wertle. I live in Louisville, KY, so this Gather is decidedly convenient on my part, hehe! I started posting at alt.fan.dragons I think in 1998, but generally I am not able to post much during school (that will all change, as I graduate in the spring). I've been attending the Gather since it was officially started in 2001 by the whims of Scott, but was not able to attend last year due to work out of town.
I maintain the Gather website (which is due for a facelift), and serve as official I-can-tell-you-what-you-need-to-know-abo
ut-Louisville-because-I-live-there dragon. This year, I'll be sitting on a panel with Scott, presenting on Dragons in Art. I also sell art in the art show, so if any of you potential Gather-attendees are interested in participating in the art show, I can help you out if you need.
I will definately be attending the Gather this year.
